Movie Review of “Role Models”

Role Models was a laugh riot, but not of epic proportions.  I saw this movie after spending the entire day with high school students.  This may have colored my viewpoint, but not by much.

Do not view this movie if you don’t like crude, vulgar humor.

If you are like me and have no sense of taste or sensibility, you will probably laugh during 80% of the movie.

Two not very responsible adult males are required by a court to spend 150 hours of community service with a “big brothers” type organization.  The movie follows the typical plot with the kids teaching the adults life lessons.  It isn’t the plot that makes the movie, though.  It is the jokes. And more jokes.  And even more jokes.  They got a great kid who can make a sailor blush with his language.

Go and enjoy.

My Mom Sent Me A Funny

A Christmas Story for people having a bad day:
When four of Santa’s elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.

Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.
The angel said very cheerfully, ‘Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn’t this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?’

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

Thank you, Mom.

The End of Break

After decimating the health of our family in Iowa with a four-year-old girl, it is time to go back to school.

What got accomplished?

  • Living room, dining room, and kitchen were painted by Lani and her mother
  • My laptop was beginning to crash, so it was reformatted to Ubuntu, thus requring me to take the plunge I have been trying to merely wade into.
  • Kids have recovered from a bout with something flu-like (probably the flu, I guess)
  • Most stuff has been put back into the painted rooms
  • Christmas tree and lights have been put up.  Decorations will need to be done over the next copule of days

I will still need to change all of the outlets and switches to white instead of what looks to be beige.

Just saw the weather!  Woo-hoo!  55-degrees means I may be able to get the front yard mowed and the leaves mulched since I am not supposed to rake because of the new grass.

Well, the kids are better, Lani & I have not gotten sick, and it is time to go back.  Time for bed.

It’s Christmas?

First of all, I don’t care if we are in a recession, Christmas time doesn’t occur until the day after Thanksgiving. ONE HOLIDAY AT A TIME!!!

We have to come back home from Urbandale early this year since Parker has an indoor soccer game at 9:30 am on Saturday.

For my family, who always ask for a list, it is available here. Each person’s list is on a separate sheet that can be clicked on the bottom. I have already purchased a Nintendo DS for each kid. They will need various accoutrement for those. I have a few listed, but Gamestop gift cards would be fine so they can pick their own things.
